Green Key Environmental Certification
Hospitality is one of the most important components of the tourism industry. Around the world, hotels are becoming increasingly aware of and concerned with environmental issues. In socially and ecologically responsible tourism, hotels play a significant, direct, and active role in addressing these concerns by promoting and adopting eco-friendly practices. Hotels that prioritize sustainability and environmental and social awareness should operate in a way that minimizes environmental impact, providing guests with accommodations committed to green practices – such as water and energy conservation, waste reduction, and support for fair local trade and development.
The Green Key program is an international certification that promotes sustainable tourism in Portugal by recognizing hotels, local accommodations, campsites, and restaurants that implement strong environmental and social practices. These establishments prioritize environmental management and actively promote Environmental Education for Sustainability. This initiative is led by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark, and coordinated in Portugal by the Associação Bandeira Azul da Europa (ABAE), with the support of various national public and private entities.
Hotel Oslo Coimbra is committed to promoting environmental awareness and adopting measures that minimize environmental degradation. With this concern in mind, and by continuously doing what is within our reach, we are proud to be certified by the Green Key program since 2020.

The objectives of the Green Key program are:
– Raise awareness among decision-makers and stakeholders (companies, authorities, customers, suppliers, and local communities) about adopting sustainable practices and behaviors through environmental education for sustainability.
– Reduce the environmental impact of activities in commerce, services, and hospitality.
– Promote resource efficiency and the reduction of natural resource consumption.
– Support green marketing strategies and recognize environmental management initiatives.
– Contribute to the implementation of Local Agenda 21 through the continuous improvement of organizations.
