Francisco Madeira, from Coimbra, emigrated to Germany a few years ago. Despite having a degree in tourism, Francisco was willing to explore other areas and went to work for a world-renowned Coffee Shop, without knowing that destiny would surprise him. It was there that he fell in love with the world of coffee and gained experience and knowledge to open his own coffee shop later. And so, at the beginning of 2024 and returning to his hometown, Francisco ventured out and opened Nau Coffee, number 64 in Rua Borges Carneiro. His wife Mareike, of German nationality, also joined this adventure and supports her husband, every day, on the Nau.
In a not very large but welcoming space, with minimalist decor in shades of blue and white, Francisco offers one of the best coffees in the world, considered specialty coffee by the SCA (specialty coffee association). A distinction that is quite difficult to achieve: only 10% of the world’s coffee is classified as specialty coffee. Francisco’s intention is that the Coffee, at Nau Coffee, is savored and not just “taken” for the caffeine. The set menu, in addition to the traditional espresso, offers simple, hazelnut, vanilla or caramel lattes, with the option of being made with milk or a vegetable drink and with or without latte art. Taking into account the time and season of the year, there may be some new offerings such as the Pumpkin Spice Latte, available until the end of December: a drink inspired by Autumn and, as the name suggests, pumpkins.
At Nau Coffee, although the coffee is the protagonist, you can have breakfast, a snack or lunch: delicious toasts, homemade cakes and yogurt bowls, among other options, complement the menu.
