Lúcia de Jesus Rosa dos Santos or simply known to all of us as “Irmã Lúcia” was just ten years old when on July 13 1917, with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco, she attended the apparitions of “Nossa Senhora de Fátima” in “Cova da Iria”, in Fátima.
Of the three children, or of the three “little shepherds” as they came to be designated, it was “Irmã Lúcia” who carried the “Secret of Fatima”, consisting of three parts. The first two parts were revealed in a document written by Lúcia in 1941 and the third part, written in 1944, was revealed in 2000 by order of the Bishop of Leiria.
In 1948, “Irmã Lúcia” joined the “Carmelo of Santa Teresa” in Coimbra. It was there that she wrote two books and it is there that today we can visit Irmã Lúcia’s Memorial.
A museum that gives a better understanding of Sister’s life as a Carmelite, exhibiting some of her personal objects: handicrafts, objects offered by various Popes, objects used by “Irmã Lúcia” during the apparitions, photographs of her “Carmelita” life, and her carmelite cell.
Currently there is an on-going canonization process for Irmã Lúcia for which more than 1600 miracle descriptions have emerged from all over the world.
