A restaurant with 80 years of history and tradition in downtown.
With over 80 years of existence, the Carmina de Matos Restaurant, located at “Praça 8 de Maio” in downtown Coimbra, has always been a local reference for the quality and excellence of its typical portuguese flavours.
In 2018, this traditional business decided to close its doors and set to work. In March of this year (2019), it reopened and surprised Coimbra with a new and vibrant space. More modern, young and welcoming and with a completely different concept. This is a traditional business that caught up with time by reinventing itself.
Carmina de Matos is now divided into three concepts / spaces: Restaurant, Taberna and Bar. On the ground floor you’ll find a reinvention the typical Portuguese Taberna, a space dedicated to typical Portuguese snacks open from 12:00 to 00:00; On the first floor there is a restaurant, which opens from 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., which essentially works with typical Portuguese cuisine: their specialties are “Carne Barrosã” meat and long held dishes such as “Bacalhau à Carmina” and “Arroz de Pato”; on the top floor you’ll find a spectacular terrace, open from 6:00 pm to 2:00 p.m., here you can enjoy a superb view of “Praça 8 de Maio” accompanied by a Cocktail, Wine or Gin.
This space undoubtedly provides a fantastic gastronomic experience and an inviting atmosphere in the very heart of downtown and will again be a must stop for locals and visitors alike.
