One construction with over 250 years.
It is next to the “Jardim Botânico” that you find a newly uncovered “treasure” of Coimbra, with over 250 years, it recently opened to the public. We are talking about the “Seminário Maior”, an eighteenth-century Italian art building, built as a grand catholic seminary, that will enchant you with the great artistic wealth it offers. The fifty minute guided tours allow visitors to pass through the “Sagrada Família” Church, one of the most beautiful domes in the country, the Chapel of “São Miguel”, the old library, the tile room and the episcopal apartments. We suggest that you also enjoy the beautiful view, which the Seminary balcony offers, over the Mondego River. The Seminary, despite having lost its function in 2012, continues to be inhabited by 12 people. This is therefore an “inhabited house” that silently holds “an oasis of the city”.
